The Archontiko Rousias is situated in the village of Palaichori, just 40 km from Nicosia. It is built at approximately 900 me above sea level and amidst two mountains. The area of Pitsilia is fertile land and the village is abundant in fruit trees and vines. Almond and walnut trees, vineyards, olives and other local varieties are all around. It is filled with clean air and during the summer it is pure bliss to be surrounded by a green river of trees and freshness. Palaichori retains its original character of a rural Cyprus village while it is privileged by its natural landscape.
The Archontiko which mean the Mansion was originally built in 1915 for Panayi Rousia and his soon to be wife Kyriakou. They lived and bared their children in this house. Their grandson back in year 2000 envisioned that this family mansion could be a beautiful guest lodging specially in this mountainous area where lodging was scarce. The conversion and revival of the building is probably one of the most costly for the area but will certainly further develop tourism in this area.
The original architecture of the Archontiko was preserved with a cosy indoor and outdoor living space. There is a Guest room on the ground floor of the mansion which includes a private bathroom, double bed, TV, DVD and CD player as well as a sitting area. The two deluxe suites are located on the first and second floors. They encompass spacious living space, private bathrooms, double beds, TV, DVD, CD player, a mini bar and private wooden balconies. Original fixtures such as the doors, balcony and stone are maintaining its original character.A shared fully equipped kitchen includes a pantry and electrical appliances. Adjacent to the kitchen is a sheltered balcony with a sitting area in fresh air and views to the river. The outdoor living is so relaxing at the Archontiko. Crisp air in hot summer days can be refreshing resting in any of the many balconies, courtyards and patios while the river flows below the mansion.
The family, as the rest of Palaichori was skilled craftsmen in the various handicraft or agricultural activities of the village. A private collection of many tools and products are on display here whether woodcarving, hand loomed textiles, hand tools. The owner's father is most famous for his skill in making the Vourka, a saddle bag made of goat skin and used by the shepherds. The family of Rousias has long roots in the history of the village of Palaichori and so is their mansion the Archontiko waiting to welcome guests for a relaxed holiday.
